A Life of Sir Edmund DuCane. illus. with colour portrait frontispiece, 14 colour and numerous b/w sketches by Sir Edmund DuCane, 9 portrait photographs, bibliography, references; pub. In 1851, Lieutenant DuCane, 21, a graduate of the Royal Military College, left Gravesend for the the convict colony of Western Australia on the 'Anna Robertson'. He recorded many people and scenes in the colony, in watercolours and sketches, (reproduced here); he married Georgiana Molloys' daughter, Mary Dorothea. After spending some time as magistrate in the W.A. colony and recording life there in paintings, sketches and letters, DuCane returned to England and interested himself in crime prevention.
