Biography of Viscount Weir. Strategic bombing, the most controversial and terrifying operation of war, was put forward in 1917-1918 as the main justification for setting up the RAF. William Weir, along with Smuts and Churchill, was among the most forceful of its founders. As Secretary of State for Air in 1918, Weir coerced Trenchard, much against his will, into becoming the Father of the RAF. He later fought off Lord Beatty, First Sea Lord, whose demand for an Admiralty-controlled Fleet Air Arm would have shattered the RAF. From 1935 to 1938 Weir was closely associated with every aspect of the Government’s plan for war, and his work with Lord Swinton at the Air Ministry unquestionably laid the foundations of the Air Force of the Second World War. Includes a list of British aircraft companies and their aircraft for the years 1935-38. Near fine copy.   Price: $35.00

Dublin Euphqurion 1952  or.cl. 8vo. pp.260. Hans-Ulrich Rudel was the first and only member of the Armed Forces of the Third Reich to be awarded wartime Germany's highest decoration. No-one else has ever received this supreme award: the Golden Oakleaves with Swords and Diamonds to the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. With two thousand and thirty operational flights to his credit, From 1939 he was hardly ever on leave. Even after he was wounded, he immediately hurried back to his unit. At the beginning of 1945 he lost his right leg below the knee in action and refused to wait until he was fully convalescent before returning to duty. Despite an open wound he grimly went on flying with an ill-fitting artificial leg chafing away at the bleeding stump. The old soldierly values of loyalty and obedience determined the whole of his life. He was, as Douglas Bader states in his foreword, 'by any standards a gallant chap'. Lettering fading into spine, worn and torn d/w. repaired with tape else v/good.  Price: $40.00
