insight to the wide range of talents of Osbert Lancaster besides the cartoons for which he is

The Villa Diana.
Is where Alan Moorehead and his family lived
near Florence. illus. with dwgs. t/out. by Osbert
Lancaster & one plate pub. Lond. Hamilton 1951 1st.ed.
or.cl. (lt.blu. col.illus.) d/w. 8vo. pp.150. Above
Florence and the valley of the Arno stood the Villa Diana, in one of
the oldest inhabited parts of Italy, at the end of an old Etruscan road
that wound among olive groves and lines of cypresses. The home of
Poliziano in the fifteenth century, it had been occupied by the troops
of seven different armies during World War Two but otherwise escaped
damage, if one overlooked the looting of the grand piano. In the
aftermath of World War II, Alan Moorehead, an Australian journalist,
who had covered the British Army, rented the Villa. He describes living
in that time of recovery. Dustwrapper slightly browned, especially the
rear else near fine. Price: $45.00

folded and tipped in at right-angles. pp.16 of text (An Introduction to the Study of Ancient
Geography) engraved leaf (Index, folded and tipped in at right-angles) listing the maps & 22 maps
("Drawn & Engraved by W Murphy, Edinburgh"), double-page, all finely handcoloured; pub. Edinburgh,
n. date c. 1820 rebacked in brown calf with marbled boards and restored with new e/papers, name in
