1st state, original olive boards with gilt lettering and pictorial decoration of an armoured
knight, shield, top-hat in black, grey and gilt; tiny olive & white wallpaper print e/papers
pp.576.2 pages of ads on 1 leaf. Illustration "The King" (pp.59) has a small S-like ornament
between the two words; first state. Twain's tale of Hank Morgan, a 19th-century citizen of
Hartford, Connecticut who awakens to find himself transported back in time to medieval
England at the time of legendary King Arthur. A bit of wear to the corners & slight rubbing
to spine. Hinges resewn, reglued, overall very good with professionally re-backed cloth to
spine corner and rear board; front board hinge at top edge slightly exposed. pp.246-47 torn
in margin. The cloth bright and well preserved, the text clean. A Very good firm copy of the
